A Heartfelt Question from a Reader

If we didn't torture why does any republican care what pelosi knew?
Yet they all talk about it constantly.
You know in your heart we tortured people.

This is from one of our regulars in the comments section named Anonymous (of Rome?) and he asks a good question: If Republicans do not believe we tortured, what difference does it make what Pelosi knew?

Let's turn it around. If we did torture, wouldn't it be of significance to learn that one of the most powerful members of congress, the first female speaker of the house, knew what was happening and said nothing? Or should only members of congress and the government with "R"s after their names be brought before a truth commission, while those with "D"s get a pass? Conversely, if we did not torture, why should only Republicans be made to sweat it out in a political show trial under the harsh glare of the Klieg lights with all that carbon burning in the air while Democrats get to watch at home reclining on comfortable leather sofas nursing gin and tonics?

You know in your heart we tortured people.

I do? I don't recall growing up believing that depriving bad guys of sleep was torture. Depriving criminals of sleep is torture? No, sir. Not to this boy. I can honestly say I never believed in my heart or in my mind or in my gut that a method that leaves neither physical or psychological damage to a person while being an effective interrogation technique is torture.

you've seen the photos. you've read the memos.

a lot more than "depriving sleep" was done to people, some of whom were innocent of terrorist affiliation.

you ought to be ashamed of yourself pretending that's all that happened.
