Second, I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life.
Upon reading her entire lecture ("A Latina Judge's Voice") it seems reasonable to ask whether there is anything that Sonia Sotomayor does not see through the prisms of race, gender, and culture? These are clearly the words of a proud Latina activist, who believes that her race, gender, culture, and background make her better qualified to judge (and especially better qualified than vanilla white people).
Yet when you point out the obvious, that Sotomayer is the new poster girl for identity politics, lefties accuse you (ironically) of focusing on her race and gender--when it is she, if you've read her lecture, who made race and gender an issue. It is her passion. Her way of seeing and understanding the world. Her doctrine. Her words.
Undoubtedly Sotomayer will relish her confirmation hearings where she can prove she's smarter than a bunch of old white guys.
