The first order of business when discussing a column like this is to first thank the author for departing from his usual area of expertise--in this case, economics--to pontificate on the matter at hand. Paul Krugman, Nobel Prize Laureate, has taken a well-earned respite from saving the world's economy to pen an article about "reclaiming America's soul."
With such a deep subject--America's soul--this Lincolnesque writer and poet is best read accompanied by hymns playing from a gramophone, softly floating in from a near distant room.
