RIO DE JANEIRO, Feb 1 (Reuters) - Police demanding more pay in crime-plagued Rio de Janeiro placed nearly 600 crosses on Copacabana beach on Friday in memory of slain comrades as the Brazilian city launched into its Carnival celebrations.
"We earn 30 reais ($17) a day, less than a maid earns."
